Have you ever had the pleasure of a nice warm, relaxing, and peaceful sauna? I have only had this luxury in the form of a gym membership or pre-massage therapy session. You enter the sauna, let the heat travel into your muscles, then just sit and relax. No noise, no humans, jut peace, quiet, and calming heat. And listen to their conversations while you plug your music in your ears for as long as the technology can withstand the heat.

Saunas are Expensive…is it Worth it?
Yes. Saunas are expensive. You know what else is expensive? Cigarettes are expensive. Weight loss and diet plans are expensive. Medical bills are expensive. Devices and medications for pain relief are expensive.
What do these topics have to do with saunas?
I have learned that saunas have far more benefits than people understand. It just isn’t common knowledge yet. So, let’s discuss how investing in a sauna is the same as or cheaper than other habits or expenses just mentioned.
Smoking
Spending time in a sauna helps people quit smoking. Is smoking expensive? Yes. Someone smoking a pack a day spends over $3,000 a year to smoke. I used to smoke myself, usually to reduce stress. Saunas help improve your mood, reduce stress, increase energy, and improve sleep. Some of the same effects people seek when smoking can be achieved through a far healthier method; replace an unhealthy habit with a healthy habit. The heat from the sauna speeds up detoxification to get the nicotine out of your system quicker. Create a routine with a sauna to replace smoking habits. In the beginning, only use it for 5-20 minutes at a time on a low temperature. Meditate or stretch when you are struggling to just sit still.
Weight Loss and Diet Plans
Are you trying to lose weight and your diet is not giving you the results you need? Saunas make a difference in your weight loss journey. Time in a sauna boosts metabolism which increases exercise capacity. It also reduces stress, which reduces levels of a hormone called cortisol, which is linked to belly fat. A sauna on its own may not reduce weight; it is a support to other healthy habits to get you to the results you seek faster.

We can think, “I should really start working out.” Unless you decide that it is a priority and you bump other tasks in your schedule if needed, it will not “work out.”

Traditional Saunas versus Infrared Saunas
Traditional saunas are capable of higher temperatures and do not always require an electrical power source. They typically get as hot as 180-200 degrees. Traditional saunas can withstand cold environments because of their ability to reach high temps quickly.
Infrared saunas use lower heat temperatures from 100-130 degrees, but they provide a deeper sweat more effectively than the hotter air of traditional saunas. This also makes the air more breathable for those that struggle with high temperatures. Infrared heat is proven to be more beneficial for pain relief and other conditions mentioned previously. Infrared heat is even used in hospitals to warm newborn babies!
Cedar versus Basswood Saunas
Cedar is a soft wood and typically the longest lasting choice of wood for saunas. It is used in aromatherapy because it impacts your brain in a way that positively affects nervous system healing and cleansing.
Basswood is a very dense wood, so it is more stable and stronger, as well as sweat resistant. This wood is considered hypoallergenic with virtually no odor.
